In today’s youth oriented culture it is important to recognize the place of senior adults in the life of the church. Statistics tell us that senior adults make up a large portion of the total number of members and attendees of our churches. Nixa First Assembly of God likewise has a burgeoning number of this age group. We recognize their importance and appreciate their talents, ministry and involvement in our church and in our outreach ministries.

We have a planning committee made up of our Senior Adults Pastors, Mel and Betty Todd, two senior couples, Dane and Pat Brandwein and Wally and Connie Bateman, and two senior widows, Joann Stanbro and Jeanne Carruth, who are endeavoring to plan activities that will interest our seniors and offer them opportunities for activities that will allow for fellowship and fun, as well for forming lasting friendships. IF YOU ARE 55+ YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN US!!

WHO ARE THE NIXA FIRST SENIOR ADULTS? What are we like?
Some people have pre-conceived ideas as to who we are and what we are like. Often there are negative thoughts and descriptions linked to this unique time of our lives. The fact is, we are just people who have reached a new stage of life. For most of us, this is an exciting time. We still have a portion of good health in spite of aches and pains and other minor difficulties that we have learned to live with. If you listen, you can hear us sharing these things with each other and joking about them frequently. This is one of our greatest coping mechanisms. We are happy and are expecting good things in our lives on a year-to-year, month-to-month, or even day-to-day basis.
Some of us are more fragile and a little less active. However, we still want to be included in everything as much as is possible. We don’t want to be a burden to anyone so sometimes we just stay home. We are thankful for your kindness and patience with us.

Following is a description of the Nixa First Assembly of God Senior Adults based on an acrostic using the word “S-E-N-I-O-R-S”.

S: We are sensitive, sensible and sincerely seeking fun, fellowship and friendship. ARE YOU READY FOR US?
E: We are enthusiastic, energetic (until our energy runs out), and entirely available (when we choose to be). WILL YOU GIVE US A CHANCE?
N: We are nice, not mean, just really neat people. We are not “crotchety” or ill-tempered, as some may think. GET TO KNOW US AND YOU WILL SEE!
I: We are into music, worship, prayer and praise at Nixa First Assembly. YOU WILL SEE US THERE AS OFTEN AS WE ARE ABLE.
O: We are obedient to our Lord and to our leaders. We are optimistic and open to new ideas. We love to try new things. WE ARE JUST WAITING FOR NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO COME TO US!
R: We are respectful, reliable, and ready to serve our God and others. Some of us have reached retirement, others have not. But…YOU CAN COUNT ON US!
S: We are not “set in our ways” (well, maybe sometimes we are). We can still learn. PLEASE CHALLENGE US WITH GOOD TEACHING AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES.
