History
Beginning in September,1952 as “Cottage Prayer Meetings,” the thriving community of Nixa, then had a population of only 570. Renting a house on the corner of Mt. Vernon and Market Streets for $30 per month, the church grew to an average attendance of 55, reaching a high of 63.
Two lots were purchased for $950 near the corner of Mt. Vernon and Main Streets, with ground breaking for a new building on October 17, 1954. The new building was about 32 feet by 58 feet with a square footage of 1,856 feet. J. Dan Woodall was pastor until September 30, 1956.
In 1963 Wilbur Blansit became pastor of Nixa Assembly of God – the rest they say is history. In 1978 church growth made it necessary to construct a bigger building. The sanctuary was 100 feet by 127 feet and would seat approximately 500. Today with an average Sunday attendance of 400 and growing – our new sanctuary was completed in October 2005, and is located on the northwest corner of the church campus, seating over 800 people.
